OFFF Barcelona 2011 Main Titles

Written by Mischa Rozema and British graphic designer, Si Scott, the opening titles reflect their dark thoughts on a possible future. Directed by Mischa and shot on location in Prague, the film guides the viewer through a grim scenario embedded with the names of artists appearing at this year’s OFFF festival. The live action was brought back to Amsterdam for post, primarily carried out by PostPanic’s in-house team of artists but also with the additional help of freelancers and partner companies that we have enjoyed strong creative relationships with over the years. It’s really fair to say that this was a labour of love by a passionate crew of people.

Mischa Rozema, Director, says:
“We knew we wanted to make something that would unsettle and menace the audience. It was always going to be dark but also highly aesthetic. This project has filled our spare hours for the past 6 months and it is incredibly satisfying to work on something that we were given complete creative freedom on – that’s a rare luxury these days.”

Says Ania Markham, Executive Producer at PostPanic:
“The images created by the crew of people working on the titles has been unbelievable, with nationalities represented including Dutch, Czech, English, Polish, German, Swedish and Belgian. It’s been a great opportunity for all of us to work together on a non-commercial project we’re passionate about and we’re so proud of the combined effort and final result.”

In the book, The Animator's Survival Kit, Richard Williams tells a story about him asking Milt Kall, one of Disney's Nine Old Man, "Milt, do you ever listen to Classical Music While you're working?" , and the answer was: "Of all the S-S-S-STUPID GOD-GOD-GOD-DAMED Questions I-I-I've EVER heard! I never heard such a f-stupid Question! I'm not smart enough to think of more than one thing at the time!", pointing out that he needed silence to work, concentration on what he was doing.

In the other hand designers really like to ear music while working, and many times they even associate styles os music with the style of work they did or do, like some kind of inspiring muse.

Bruno and I would like to inspire you too, with some music videos, some for the music and some for the video.

Here is this months music video list:

Kraak & Smaak - Squeeze Me

Gramophonedzie - Why Don' t You

Radiohead - House of Cards

This opening credits were considered by Tarantino as one of the best ones in the cinema history.

The frenetic rhythm and the lights intend to integrate the viewer in the dynamic of the movie, which represents the after death experience of a drug dealer that is killed by the police during a drug raid.

If "Enter the Void" opening credits have this result here, imagine what it is to see this in a cinema screen. You can see all the frames here.

Jakob Trollback asked the following question :

 - What if the music video was directed by the music, rather than by the filmmaker ?

The answer he found is in the video ...

For Australia's Tron: Legacy premiere, skaters slid around Eness' interactive ramp. The effects are controlled through iPod Touches loaded with custom apps that measured air time and provided their location.

really great idea and effects.

Prepare for the most mind meltingly realistic CGI You've Ever Seen.

Alex Roman is some kind of wizard. I suspected it when I saw his jaw-dropping CGI mini-movie The Third & The Seventh, but after watching his new 100% computer generated commercial, there's simply no other explanation.

In the comments of the Vimeo video, Roman explains:

"Aswering your questions; yep, it's all CG -same process as T&S- I tried to put some live-footage shots but i run out of time so CGI did the trick :p. Whole production was 2 and a half months for the initial concept to the final editing; two people: Juan and me."

While Hollywood CGI is getting more and more impressive every day, you can almost always tell that it's not real. Some microscopically incorrect movement will betray the artifice of the image, or the light won't play off something in quite the right way. That is not the case here. There was nothing in this clip that raised in me even a hiccup of doubt that I wasn't looking at the world which I inhabit. The real world.

The Astronomical Clock in Prague's Old Square displays not only time but sunrise, sunset, zodiac, mean revolutions of the moon, and a whole bunch of other crazy stuff. It recently celebrated its 600th birthday with this incredible projected light show, wich took 4 months to create and used 2 Christie 18K HD projectors—that's 5000x1200 resolution.

The projection mapping was done by Michael Kotek and Lukáš Dubeda at The Macula with sound design by data-live and production by Tomato Production.

Awesome!

Algo de execução genial, criativo e inspirador. São sensacionais as possibilidades que se podem alcançar com recurso a estas tecnologias.

This video, suggested by Nuno Veiga, is an amazing motion work, not only because of the way the managed to create all the ideas for all the 35 movies, but also because of the great, but simple, graphic/motion design.

gosto!
