NAD/ was choosed to project the Stand that represents Angola in this year's edition of ITU Telecom World, one of the most important communications event in the world. This year's edition was in Geneva, Switzerland.

The stand created to the Angolan participation in the ITU Telecom World 2011 pretends to highlight the angolan presence in the event using its architectonical expressions. The stand is inspired by elements such as the national values, innovation, visibility, technologies and sustainability. Two bodies L-shaped define a central room and a VIP area at the ground level and two exhibition spaces at the higher level.

The connection between the two levels is made through two spaces like auditoriums that allow the visitors to stay there and shows promotional videos in the several multimedia screens. The exhibition rooms are subdivided in several spaces through fixed furniture, allowing the division of the several expositors as well as the two meeting rooms.

The highly recognizable architectonical shape of the stand is emphasized by the main facade, that is  composed by vertical metallic props covered in LEDs that reproduce colors identifying the angolan flag. In the centre of the stand there is a cube suspended where promotional spots of the several sponsors are projected.

In an environment where everybody wants to stand out, the ITU stand defines itself in a simple formality but with great visual impact.

The international design, architecture and creativity biennial EXD'11 - Experimenta Design is back in Lisboa to create a stir in the city's historic centre with dozens of events bustling with creativity and cutting edge spirit,  from September 28 to November 27.

Taking inspiration from the theme of "Useless" (itself a provocation), EXD's 11th edition will bring together hundreds of professionals and creatives in the Portuguese capital around the idea of use and disuse, useful and useless, proposing new interpretations of what is produced and consumed. Lisboa will thus be the platform of choice for exchanging ideas and experiences through an extensive and eclectic program consisting of exhibitions, urban interventions, conference cycles, debates, film screenings, among other initiatives.

The Biennial's 21 core events and more than 50 parallel ones will be held in the most diverse cultural facilities and other lesser-known public venues in Lisboa's most landmark areas. The Biennial's already close links to the city are embodied this year with the geographical concentration of EXD'11 venues in the centre of the Portuguese capital, all within walking distance of each other from Amoreiras to Alfama, including Baixa-Chiado.

Ever closer to the general public, EXD'11 extends even to the most unexpected places such as gardens, palaces and theatres, thus inviting its visitors and all who pass through Lisboa to learn more about the city's historic and architectural heritage, in a harmonious combination of tradition and modernity.

The EXD Lounging Space will be housed in the heart of Chiado, at the former courthouse of Tribunal da Boa Hora, acting as the main hub of the biennial with its visitors. Here visitors can enjoy a lounge area, bar, information centre and its own activities program.

Held in Lisboa since 1999, the Biennial is regarded as one of the boldest international events in its sector, placing Lisboa on the international map of the world's creative and cultural industries.

The opening week starts in 7 days. see the schedule here http://ow.ly/6Altp ... and let's go.

Talk to Me explores the communication between people and things. All objects contain information that goes well beyond their immediate use or appearance. In some cases, objects like cell phones and computers exist to provide us with access to complex systems and networks, behaving as gateways and interpreters. Whether openly and actively, or in subtle, subliminal ways, things talk to us, and designers help us develop and improvise the dialogue.

Colher Tour project is an online platform to promote and divulge the portuguese graphic design. This project consists in several conferences and exhibitions in many cities with design items that inspire and boost freelancers, designers, students and the overall population about the value of the present-day national design.

In Évora this event will be realized in the new NAD/ Research and Design Centre. The programme opens with an exhibition at 4.30 PM, being followed by short conferences between 6 PM and 8 PM. Besides NAD/'s creative director, Nuno Abreu, the other two participants will be the responsible for the Colher Tour project, Eurico Sá Fernandes, and the responsible for the Serrote Design Project/ Typography..

/ I Remember

/ NAD/ Research and Design Centre

/ 9.30 AM - 1.00 PM/ 2.00 PM - 6.30 PM (from Monday to Friday)

There are different ways to define or remember our visit to places that, for some reason, are meaningful to us.

This is part of my collection from past years, from the several travels I've made and the way that I keep them.

Posters always have a special meaning for a designer. They are the summary of graphic design in a space with a very well-defined boundary.

There are no pages. Just one sheet. A screen. Something to stop and look. Something that perpetuates an event. A place. A moment.

This is my collection.

Nuno Abreu, Designer.

Many months ago, we had a dream.

But we didn't just imagine it: we sought solutions, we defined what we wanted it to be, we prepared the project and now we can finally stop. Because today we can say: NAD/ Research and Design Centre is finally open.

The project that began with NAD/ Design Café, but that goes far beyond it, opened on Tuesday, June 28th, one of its most important parts. A space that intends to be a lab of creative and artistic activities - placed in NAD’s business activity -, but also hopes to welcome Évora’s people, that can enjoy the several offers of this new place.

Photography, video and sound studios, exhibitions, lectures, talks or simply to spend some good quality time. A space willing to be visited.

NAD/ Research and Design Centre / Largo da Misericórdia, doors 4, 5 and 6 / 700-932 Évora / PORTUGAL

This is an awesome day for NAD/.
It is the day that we gave a huge step to be different, to be better.

On the 26t of May, the "Brave New World" exhibiton took place in the Ara Gallery in Dubai. A group of students from the American University in Dubai tried to interpret these three words and to preceive their own "Brave New World" in their work.

The Exhibiton was created by the senior class of the 2010 visual communication department of the American University in Dubai. Our NAD Designer, Waleed Bahadi, was one of the participants in the exhibition.

P.S. I would like to thank my new family NAD/ME for their support. I really Appreciate it.

Glad to have you aboard. Congrats on the work.

In an age of mass production,Sthephem Burks ’ exhibition Man Made presented in The Studio Museum in Harlem, in New York is a welcome distraction, which makes us reconsider both the conceptual and the aesthetical value of a handmade object, or design product.

The exhibition is inspired by Burks collaboration with Senegalese basket weavers based in New York and Dakar as well as projects with artisans in South Africa, Peru and India. Basket weaving technique will be applied in a number of different objects, from tables and lamps to chairs.

The Studio Museum in Harlem, which was found in 1968, is a contemporary art museum that focuses on the work of artists of African descent locally, nationally and globally. This exhibition places back on the map, the art of a handmade object and reaffirms the significance of traditional ways of designing functional and beautiful products.
