Betrand Benoit aka bbb3viz,  is possibly, one of those artists who will come up with a new project, and we always will doubt if the images presented are simple, beautiful and real photos....or it's all CG.

Unlike many colleagues in his field, he wasn’t training as an architect but came to Visualization via photography about four years ago. He was totally attracted to CG as a means to push the boundaries he was encountering in architectural photography. The ability to create photorealistic renders of virtual scenes on off-the-shelf hardware was what initially fired his interest.

He does have a relatively strong – and much older – drawing background, but he really thinks that comparatively, the recent photography background is much more crucial to making his 3d work better.

"It helps me to know how far you can push some effects – such as a shallow Depth Of Field – without making an image photographically implausible."

He thinks it’s no coincidence that many of the best Archviz artists, people like Peter Guthrie, are also excellent photographers in their own right.

In our careers as 3D Artists, something we concluded that a good post processing makes all the difference in the final result of the image. Sometimes in the beggining of our careers, we found ourselves trying to figure out for days and days, how the artists could give so much realism to their images. We had spent days and nights testing materials and lights, waiting for minimal and acceptable good results (Dummies???).

For that, we had created a small challenge regarding a photograph we had seen on a famous Architecture website, and tried to stablish a very short deadline to recreate it. The idea of this little healthy competition was simply to recreate the scene / composition we saw in the picture.

The competition ended in 28 hours, including post-processing.

We’ve learned some essential techniques and how to use some very useful plugins for the recreation of a 3D/photograph.

Here we leave you the final images. Enjoy!

Salesman Pete and The Amazing Stone From Outer Space. If you have to watch a video during lunch at the office, this is it. It's pure animation bliss, with some of the most exquisite use of 3D I've ever seen.

The atmosphere, the pace, the action... and also the perfect rendering to make it look like pure airbrushed, hand-drawn 2D animation. Marc Bouyer, Max Loubaresse, and Anthony Vivien—as well as musician Cyrille Marchesseau and sound designer Mael Vignaux—should all get an Oscar and jobs at Pixar.

Hermitage Plaza, Paris, France by Foster + Partners

"Hermitage plaza will create a new community to the east of la défense, in courbevoie,
that extends down to the river seine with cafés, shops and a sunny public plaza at
its heart. Designed by foster + partners the project incorporates two 323-metre-high
buildings – the tallest mixed-use towers in western europe, which will establish
a distinctive symbol for this new urban destination on the paris skyline."

"The result of a close collaboration with epad, the city of courbevoie, atelier de paysage

urbain and département de hauts-de-seine, the project is intended to inject life into
the area east of la défense by creating a sustainable, high-density community. Due to
start on site in 2010 and complete by the end of 2014, the two towers accommodate
a hotel, spa, panoramic apartments, offices and serviced apartments, as well as shops
at the base."

"Forming two interlocking triangles on plan, the buildings face one another at ground
level. Open and permeable to encourage people to walk through the site. The towers
enclose a public piazza which establishes the social focus. As they rise, the towers
transform, turning outward to address views across paris. The glazed façade panels catch
the light, the sun animating different facets of the buildings as it changes direction
throughout the day. The angle of the panels promotes self-shading and vents can be opened
to draw fresh air inside, contributing to an environmental strategy that targets a breeam
‘excellent’ rating. The diagrid structure is highly efficient."
